Natural and Mathematical Sciences

David PisoniProfessor David Pisoni,  Psychological and Brain Sciences, received a new grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) for his work in the DeVault Otologic Research Laboratory. Pisoni is a Chancellor's Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Science; adjunct professor of linguistics; and adjunct professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. The lab is housed in the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

Roger Temam College Professor Roger Temam received the math department's premier teaching award, the Rothrock Teaching Award, for his work with graduate students and for being the world's record holder as the most prolific math Ph.D. thesis advisor.  The Rothrock award was named after David Rothrock, Sr., who was a mathematician and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1920 to 1937. He was also named as a member of the inaugural 2009 class of fellows of SIAM, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics  (see http://www.siam.org/prizes/fellows/).

Richard H. DurisenAstronomy professor Richard H. Durisen presented an invited lecture on "Radiative Hydrodynamics and the Formation of Gas Giant Planets" at the April meeting of the American Physical Society in Denver.

Dan KnudsenDan Knudsen received the Ryan Award for exceptional contributions to international programs and studies.  For outstanding contributions to the field and discipline of Recreation, Tourism and Sport (RTS) Geography, the Association of American Geographers has awarded Dan Knudsen the Roy Wolfe Award.

Clay FuquaClay Fuqua, professor of Biology, has been awarded the 2009 American Society for Microbiology Indiana Branch Research Award.

William Carroll, Jr.William Carroll, Jr., Chemistry, received the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Service Award from the Indiana University, Alumni Foundation.

Krishnan RaghavachariKrishnan Raghavachari received the 2009 Davisson-Germer Prize in Surface or Atomic Physics sponsored by AT&T Bell Laboratories.
