College Reorganization

Larry SingellDear Colleagues,

The newly adopted mission statement defines the College as a “professional organization of eighty departments and programs that span the arts and humanities, social sciences, and sciences collectively dedicated to the mission of liberal education and engaged in creative activity, basic and applied research, and scholarship with the purpose of serving IU, the state of Indiana, the U.S., and the world.”

In an effort to facilitate this mission, I propose a reorganization of the College to adopt a divisional structure for the Associate Deans: one for the Sciences, for the Social Sciences, for Arts and Humanities, and for Educational Policy and Programs. The new structure is designed to:

  • Provide easily identifiable points of contact at the Associate Dean level for both faculty within the College and for external audiences.
  • Ensure that there is a broad portfolio of expertise to advise the Dean.
  • Enhance and manage the undergraduate mission of the College.
  • Treat enrollment management in a more holistic and comprehensive manner.
  • Produce greater cohesion for international initiatives.
  • Better integrate current budget and enrollment management systems to help us evaluate resource allocations in the College.

I welcome your comments and feedback as we work through this process.

Larry D. Singell Jr.
Dean

College launches new site for news

Arts and Sciences NewsThe College’s Communications and Marketing office spent much of the summer working on a news aggregator site to better display all the news about the College’s faculty, students, staff, and alumni.  Every department and program in the College has a designated news editor who has access to contribute items to the site.  Please take a look around the site; contact the site publisher at asnews@indiana.edu if you have any questions about how to contribute items for publication.
