Present were Linda Smith, Allan Edmonds, Walter Gantz, Michael Gasser, Steven Stowe, Gerald Wright, Lynda Delph, Cynthia Bannon, Richard Carr, Aimee Dawson, Jim Craig, Kirstine Lindemann, and Catharine Hoff.
ACTIONS
Approved changing the English department's course number, in fulfillment of the English Composition Fundamental Skills requirement, from W131 to W132. This was done to remedy a problem caused by the transfer and articulation of courses in the IU system. Originally, this campus and many other campuses had a two-semester composition requirement of W131 and W132. Subsequently, IUB changed the nature of their composition course and changed the requirements to one course but kept the number of the required course as W131. Our required one-semester course is, in fact, comparable to W132 at the other campuses. Accordingly, the number of the course will be changed to fit this fact. Because W131 is required by so many schools and is taught in the high schools as an ACP course, this number change will not go into effect until Summer 2002, after all relevant units have been notified.
Supported the English department's position to restrict the applicability of correspondence courses to the College of Arts and Sciences major in English. Currently, the College allows students to count up to two correspondence courses from Continuing Studies toward graduation. English now excludes those courses from counting toward the College of Arts and Sciences major or minor in English.

Approved Jewish Studies' proposal for a Minor in Hebrew
Approved an exception for the Minor in Hebrew through Jewish Studies to allow
students to earn a Jewish Studies Minor in Hebrew as well as either a Jewish
studies major or Jewish Studies area certificate
Approved Speech and Hearing Sciences BA changes
Approved Mathematics BS Statistics degree proposal
DISCUSSION
The committee also discussed agenda items for this year. These include an examination of the current Fundamental Skills Mathematics requirement, the current distribution requirements, an experiential requirement (e.g., service learning, laboratory or field work, overseas study), and distance education.
The next meeting is scheduled for 8:00A on Monday, October 1, 2001, in Kirkwood Hall.
