Policy on Confidentiality of Budget Process (1992; Reviewed 2006)
The Dean has approved the recommendation of the College Policy Committee (CPC) that a CPC member may be present at all regular annual budget conferences between the Dean (or a representative of the Dean) and department chairs and program directors. The CPC has established the following rules of procedure in order to assure confidentiality of the budget process:
- Only one member of the CPC is to be present at any budget conference. The CPC representative may not be a member of the department or program whose budget is being discussed. The name of the CPC representative shall be given to the Dean in advance of the budget conference. It is recommended that the Dean transmit the name in advance to the department chair or program director.
- The written statement on the budget proposed by the department chair or program director is to be given to the CPC member prior to the budget conference. The CPC member may discuss the written statement at CPC meetings and may give it to other members of the CPC. However, the statement may not be shown or discussed outside the CPC, expect with the permission of the department chair or program director.
- Names of individual faculty members discussed at the budget conference are to be kept completely confidential and are not to be revealed even to other members of the CPC, except with permission of the department chair or program director.
- It is recommended that the Dean give these rules of procedure to department chairs and program directors prior to the beginning of the annual budget conferences.
