Summer Opportunities for Teachers

  • Biology Summer Teacher Institute
    A summer teacher institute for teachers with an interest in secondary education to work with a faculty mentor so that they can engage in laboratory and/or field activities, with the goal of formulating experiments and/or inquiry-based projects to take back to their classrooms.
  • Introductory Biotechnology Course for High School Science Teachers
    During this week long course, teachers will learn basic scientific concepts and techniques in Biotechnology allowing for similar exercises to be performed in their classrooms. Teachers will be exposed to a variety of topics related to both fundamental science and application of DNA-related aspects of biotechnology, including the following topics: visualization and manipulation of proteins, analysis of the human genome, enzyme purification and analysis, and assay for antibiotic resistance. Participation in the course will count toward professional development points. Options for graduate credit will be addressed upon acceptance into the course. Accepted teachers will receive a stipend and housing accommodations.

  • Moczek Lab: Biological Science K-12
    Review this site for diverse teaching modules in support of Indiana Science Teaching Standards. All modules involve hands-on, inquiry-based activities using unique and highly engaging materials. All resources, including classroom support, is provided for free.
  • CALM: Computer Assisted Learning Method
    CALM is a free service for teachers and students. Primarily Chemistry teachers use CALM as an online homework system that allows assessment and tracking of student performance. CALM has a test bank of questions that teachers can select from or teachers can write their own questions and add them to the test bank.
  • Celebrate Science Indiana
    Engage in interactive STEM-related activities and discussions that are sure to ignite your curiosity and imagination. Hands-on science activities and demonstrations galore!! Industry and education come together to promote science to Indiana citizens.
  • HASTI: Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc.
    Attend workshops and demonstrations to help you in your classroom and visit with a wide variety of exhibitors including Indiana colleges and universities, science vendors, textbook vendors, and more.
