Simple Machines

Question: In the inclined plane, does the judge want us to include the mass of the car in the total of the mass being raised? Some masses will also be massed in the car. Does the judge want mass of car plus mass of contents for the output mass being raised?

Answer:  In inclined plane problems, the mass to use is the total mass being moved. For those problems involving a car, this would be the mass of the car plus the mass of anything in the car.
