Additional information about the Life Sciences Scholarship

Please note: The Life Sciences Scholarship is for students on the IU Bloomington campus only.

Internships, networking, mentoring
All students in the Life Sciences, especially those who receive the Life Sciences Scholarship, are strongly urged to obtain internship experience. Staff members in LAMP and the Kelley MBA office work with undergraduate and graduate students to find appropriate internships. Internships can take various forms, from intensive week-long experiences, part-time semester internships, or full-time summer work. LAMP and the Kelley School of Business MBA program host several events each year designed to help participants network with Indiana employers and entrepreneurs. And first- and second-year MBA students with undergraduate degrees in the Life Sciences serve as mentors for undergraduates to help them adapt to the Kelley School of Business curriculum.

Combining Life Sciences Scholarships with other scholarships
In some cases, Life Sciences Scholarships may be combined with other awards from Indiana University. The selection committee will review each successful applicant’s current scholarship package to determine appropriate award amounts. For example, Wells Scholars may apply to be designated as Life Sciences Scholars; however because the Wells Scholarship covers the full cost of attendance at Indiana University in Bloomington, Wells Scholars are not eligible for additional scholarship support at the undergraduate level. Wells Scholars who are selected as Life Sciences Scholars during their undergraduate years will receive a stipend of up to $500 per year for each undergraduate year they participate. This stipend may be used to pay for approved degree-related materials, subscriptions, memberships or travel. Wells Scholars are eligible to apply for financial support for the MBA Life Sciences Fellowship.

Incoming freshmen
Although incoming freshman may apply for the Life Sciences Scholarship, the selection committee expects that few will qualify at this stage. An incoming freshman must be truly outstanding and must agree to the terms and conditions of the Life Sciences Scholarship, such as maintaining an IU grade point average of 3.3 or better, studying one of the eligible majors, and being accepted into the LAMP program, in order to be considered for the award.
