Carnegie Junior Fellows Program


The Junior Fellows Program provides an opportunity for 10-12 students who aspire to careers in international affairs to have a one-year working experience in Washington, D.C. Junior fellows provide research assistance to scholars working on Carnegie Programs. The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace accepts applications only through participating universities via designated nominating officials. Each participating university may nominate only two students each year. The College's faculty selection committee will review all applications and will forward up to two nominations to the Carnegie Endowment.


  • Graduating college seniors or students who have graduated within the past academic year but who have not begun graduate studies
  • Demonstrated interest in and completion of a significant amount of coursework in international affairs, political science, economics, history, or Russian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, India, or Asian Studies
  • Eligible and able to work in the United States for one year (August 1-July 31)
  • High academic merit, including a minimum College GPA of 3.750

Junior Fellows currently receive a gross salary of $38,000/year plus benefits. Junior Fellows have the opportunity to conduct research for books, co-author journal articles and policy papers, participate in meetings with high-level officials, contribute to congressional testimony, and organize briefings attended by scholars, journalists, and government officials.
