4 + 1 College Pathways

What is the 4+1 College Pathway?

The College of Arts and Sciences 4+1 Pathway is a combination degree program designed so that students may complete both a baccalaureate degree and a master’s degree in a shorter amount of time.

You can add a 4+1 Pathway M.A. to any College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate major. So, for example, you can obtain a History B.A. and a Germanic Studies M.A.; a Philosophy B.A. and a Sociology M.A.; or a Human Biology B.S. and a Latin American and Caribbean Studies M.A. You have flexibility to choose a combination that best meets your needs and goals.

The 4+1 College Pathway is financially beneficial to students who plan to pursue an advanced degree and need not strictly be four years of undergraduate study plus one year of graduate study.

Interested students should contact their undergraduate advisor immediately. It is best to begin planning for a 4+1 by the end of your sophomore year.
