The B.A. major in English explores and expands the power of the English language, in all its historical, persuasive, and expressive range. Majors take courses in all periods of English and American literary history, in major authors, in writing, language, film, poetry, fiction, and drama, and in relationships between literature and such other disciplines as psychology, philosophy, and history. Courses are also offered in the areas of women and literature, Jewish literature, and world literary cultures in English. Majors learn to draw connections between the globally diverse and everyday life, studying everything from science to religion, business to popular culture, politics to philosophy.
