The amount of the Donald Otto Koehler Scholarship in Mathematics and the number of recipients varies from year to year. The scholarship may not be available some years.
Donald Otto Koehler Scholarship in Mathematics
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- List mathematics as your intended major on your application for admission to IU Bloomington
- Be admitted to IU’s freshman class for the coming academic year
- Have achieved outstanding academic success in high school
Preference
Preference is given to students who have participated in high school or community extracurricular activities, especially music-related activities (Mr. Koehler was very interested in music).
Application process
Students apply using IU’s online Selective Scholarship Application (SSA). You’ll be notified if your IU Bloomington application for admission qualifies you to be invited to fill out the SSA.
The Department of Mathematics’ Scholarship Committee chooses recipients and notifies them in March.
Deadline
Applicants must submit a completed application for admission to IU Bloomington by November 1. Then they must complete the SSA by the date specified on the SSA.
Renewal
This scholarship may be renewable for up to four years.
About the donor
Anne Koehler, B.A. 1962, M.A. 1963, Ph.D. 1968, established this scholarship to honor and commemorate her late husband, Donald Otto Koehler, M.A. 1960, Ph.D. 1968, and his lifelong interest in mathematics and music.
