The amount of the Patricia Yingling Scholarship in the Arts or Humanities and the number of recipients vary from year to year. The scholarship may not be available some years.
Patricia Yingling Scholarship in the Arts or Humanities
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- List an intended major in the arts or humanities and in the College of Arts and Sciences on your application for admission to IU Bloomington
- Be admitted to IU’s freshman class for the coming academic year
- Have achieved outstanding academic success in high school
Preference
Preference is given to students who plan to major in English, and to students who are graduates of North Central High School or other public high schools in Indianapolis.
Application process
Students apply using IU’s online Selective Scholarship Application (SSA). You’ll be notified if your IU Bloomington application for admission qualifies you to be invited to fill out the SSA.
The College’s Scholarship Committee chooses recipients and notifies them in March.
Deadline
Applicants must submit a completed application for admission to IU Bloomington by November 1. Then they must complete the SSA by the date specified on the SSA.
Renewal
This scholarship may be renewable for up to four years.
About the donor
This scholarship was established by IU alumna Patricia Yingling, who earned her B.A. in government in 1949 and her M.A. in English in 1968. She served the Indianapolis community as an English teacher at North Central High School for many years.
