In 1985, photographer Jeffrey Wolin and writer Scott Russell Sanders published Stone Country. The project documented the limestone industry and its profound impact on the people of southern Indiana.
Thirty years later, the two have updated the book to reflect the changing industry and the men and women who continue to move the traditional industry into the future.
This special exhibition features 30 original photographs by Wolin showing the three-decade progression of the limestone industry and the people who quarried and cut the stone in the Hoosier state. Learn more about the project and meet artists Jeffrey Wolin and Scott Russell Sanders.

The recipient of two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and a Guggenheim Fellowship, Jeffrey Wolin's photographs are in the permanent collections of numerous museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He is represented by June Bateman Fine Art in New York and Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago.
Scott Russell Sanders is an essayist and fiction writer, chiefly concerned with nature, community, family, ethics, and place. The ten books he published during the first half of his teaching career were mostly novels and collections of short stories, including science fiction and historical fiction. The ten books published during the second half of his career have been mostly nonfiction, including documentary narrative, collections of essays, and memoirs.
