About Damon A. Williams

One of the primary architects of the Inclusive Excellence movement, Dr. Williams brings together over four decades of research, teaching, and institutional engagement in American higher education. His visionary work compels us to recognize the ways in which student academic excellence, and indeed the very success of our academic institutions, is dependent on how well we value, engage, and include the rich diversity of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni.

His pivotal works, Strategic Diversity Leadership and The Chief Diversity Officer, offer concrete guidance for leadership and organizational change that moves beyond sporadic and reactive interventions toward strategic, comprehensive, and sustainable institutional engagement and transformation.

Williams is currently chief catalyst for the Center for Strategic Diversity Leadership & Social Innovation and a Senior Scholar and Innovation Fellow at the Wisconsin Equity and Inclusion (Wei) Laboratory of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan Center for the Study of Higher and Post-Secondary Education in Organizational Behavior and Management.
