Six academic programs in the College of Arts and Sciences received high marks in the U.S. News Best Graduate School rankings 2018 edition:

- English—20th
- History—20th
- Political Science—29th
- Psychology—17th
- Sociology—15th
“These are truly outstanding programs, deserving of national recognition for their high research standards and deep dedication to the education and training of our graduate students,” said Larry Singell, executive dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “These rankings are all the more impressive, knowing that our programs competed within an elite field of public and private institutions across the country. The College is very proud of these faculty and students, whose dedication and love of knowledge and learning make these programs among the best in the world.”
U.S. News periodically ranks programs in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, the health arena and many other areas based solely on the ratings of academic experts. This year, U.S. News announced rankings of doctoral programs in economics, English, history, political science, psychology and sociology.
