Leah always loved Spanish. She studied in Spain in high school, and when she came to IU, she found a way to go again through the Office of Overseas Study. She plans to use the experience from her time abroad as a crucial component of her plan to be a Spanish-speaking physician.

"My background in living abroad and service within the Latino community gives me the cultural competency that can be crucial in forging trusting, safe relationships with patients. After studying abroad in college, I am also interested in the possibility of doing medical missions in the future to bring education and resources to impoverished Spanish-speaking communities."
