There are Intensive Freshman Seminar fees associated with ASURE research experiences that begin on August 4. These fees will be covered automatically for 2024-25 ASURE students accepted into these experiences.

There are no Intensive Freshman Seminar fees associated with ASURE research experiences that begin on August 26.

Please note: Course-related fees may apply to some ASURE research experiences.

Each ASURE research experience begins in either the Pre-Fall or Fall semester.

Pre-Fall begins on August 4. A research experience with this start date allows ASURE students to complete their CAPP course early (as an intensive freshman seminar) and begin their research in the Fall semester. For more information about beginning school early, visit the Intensive Freshman Seminars website.

Fall begins on August 26. A research experience with this start date allows ASURE students to complete their CAPP course in the Fall semester and begin their research in the Spring semester.

Most ASURE research experiences are two semesters long, beginning with a CAPP course in the first semester and ending with research in the second semester. However, some research experiences offer an optional third semester of research in order to build on the second semester's research.

An ASURE research experience is a sequence of exclusive, research-based courses spanning two or three semesters.

All ASURE research experiences begin with a Critical Approaches to the Arts and Sciences (CAPP) course in the first semester.

CAPP courses instill sound research and writing practices that students will employ in the second semester of their ASURE research experience and in future undergraduate course work. Through these courses, students learn about the ways particular disciplines seek answers, solve problems, and organize ideas.

Any student who is a candidate for a bachelor’s degree offered by the College is required to complete one CAPP course on the Bloomington campus.

To learn more about CAPP courses and all College of Arts and Sciences Education (CASE) requirements, visit the College Bulletin.

If you are accepted into the ASURE 2024-25 program, you will receive an email by the end of the day on April 1.
