Growing Old with Rock ‘n’ Roll: A livestream interview

Join us on IU Day for an online interview and Q&A with one of rock 'n' roll's most esteemed journalists: Rolling Stone contributing editor and College of Arts and Sciences alumnus Anthony DeCurtis.

A 1980 Ph.D. graduate of IU, DeCurtis will discuss how older rock ‘n’ roll artists continue to provide fresh perspectives and influence the next generation of musicians. He'll be joined by Professor of English and Associate Vice Provost for Humanities Edward Dallis-Comentale, and audience members will be free to interact with questions of their own.

Anthony DeCurtis

Writer and Contributing Editor, Rolling Stone

Anthony DeCurtis (Ph.D. '80, English) is a contributing editor for Rolling Stone, where his work has appeared for more than 30 years, and serves as a distinguished lecturer in the creative writing program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of many books and essays about music and musicians, including Rocking My Life Away: Writing About Music and Other Matters, In Other Words: Artists Talk About Life and Work, and the official biography of Velvet Underground co-founder Lou Reed, Lou Reed: A Life. DeCurtis' liner notes for the Eric Clapton box set Crossroads won a Grammy Award in the Best Album Notes category, and he has appeared as a commentator on MTV, VH1, The Today Show, and many other programs.

Edward Dallis-Comentale

Associate vice provost for arts and humanities

Edward Dallis-Comentale is a professor of English, associate vice provost for arts and humanities, and director of the Arts and Humanities Council at Indiana University. He is the author of Modernism, Cultural Production, and the British Avant-garde and Sweet Air: Modernism, Regionalism, and American Popular Song. He co-edits a series on fan cultures for IU Press, titled The Year’s Work, through which he's published two co-edited volumes: The Year’s Work at the Zombie Research Center and The Year’s Work in Lebowski Studies. His scholarship has been featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and NBC's Dateline.
