Mark Leonard is president of Leonard Exploration, which he founded in 2008 after retiring from a long career at Shell Oil. He’s also an avid volunteer and is heavily involved in his community, spending much of his time volunteering/fundraising as a board member for the Greater Houston YMCA, Hope Center Houston, and as a director/major gifts officer for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists Foundation. He’s also led multiple church mission teams to Haiti, Belize, and Kenya.
Leonard retired from Shell Oil after over 28 years of operational experience in domestic and international oil and gas exploration and production. He began work in 1979 as a geophysicist before moving to manager of exploration economics, chief geophysicist for Shell Offshore (US Gulf of Mexico), and deepwater prospect development manager. In 1998, Leonard was named vice president, new business development, for Shell EP International Ventures. In this role, he and his family moved to Moscow, where his responsibilities included creating new Shell businesses in Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.
