Mark has been married to Kim since 1991 and has two children, Steven (30) and Kelli (23). He and Kim reside on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas. Mark’s passions include astronomy, golf, basketball, boating, fishing, camping, and traveling the US and world with his family. He has degrees in astrophysics (B.S. '77) and geology (M.A. '79) from Indiana University.
Mark became president of Leonard Exploration in 2008 after retiring from Shell Oil, but spent most of his time volunteering/fundraising as a board member for the Greater Houston YMCA, Hope Center Houston, a local homeless outreach shelter, and as a director/major gifts officer for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists Foundation. He also led multiple church mission teams to Haiti, Belize, and Kenya. He served as the executive director of the Indiana University Geologic Field station near Bozeman, Mont., in 2011-2012, and he was a director (2009-2023) of TGS-NOPEC, a multibillion dollar Norwegian seismic company that specializes in acquiring and processing data for all types of energy exploration in various areas of the world.
