College Student Academic Appointee Council
The College Student Academic Appointee Council (SAA) is a standing body representing the concerns and interests of graduate students employed in the classrooms and labs of the College of Arts and Sciences. Collectively, members discuss the concerns of College SAA’s and develop proposals for addressing them. Those proposals will be presented, as appropriate, to the College Policy Committee, Executive Dean, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Vice Provost for faculty and Academic Affairs, or to the Bloomington Faculty Council’s Committee on SAA affairs.
The SAA Council will also receive regular reports on College policies and budgets as they affect College graduate students. The council may invite other College and campus administrators to attend meetings.
The work of the SAA Council will include developing policy recommendations on the following:
- The most appropriate use of available funds (from campus, College, or other sources) to support graduate students.
- The rationalization of workloads and improvement professional development of student academic appointees, including procedures for grievances regarding work conditions.
Other aspects of graduate student teaching and research, including mentoring.
On matters in which the campus or university administration is the main authority, the Council may formulate positions that will be forwarded to appropriate offices.
