Although dismissal may seem like an academic setback, the goal of dismissal is to protect your ability to finish your IU degree in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Time away from your studies allows you an opportunity to address the challenges that have impacted your academic success. If you believe you are ready to return to IU Bloomington, you are eligible to petition for reinstatement.
Petitioning for reinstatement
If you were dismissed from the College of Arts and Sciences before December 2024, you will work with the Office of Undergraduate Retention and Student Success (OURSS) to be reinstated.
- If you have met with OURSS since your dismissal, you are welcome but are not required to meet with OURSS again to discuss reinstatement.
- If you have not met with OURSS since your dismissal, please call 812-855-1647 or 812-855-8245 to speak with us and schedule your required appointment.
You must submit the College of Arts and Sciences Reinstatement Petition by the following deadlines:
Fall Reinstatement | Spring Reinstatement | Summer Reinstatement |
June 10 | October 1 | February 15 |
